After my last post during my emergency trip back to Ohio, life took precedence over blog posts, as it tends to do. Still, a few months have passed now, and before moving on to more mundane topics, I thought I should include a brief update here.

My mom is doing much better now; the first couple of days in the hospital after her surgery were pretty rough, and her rehab process has been long and tiring, but she’s back on her feet and getting more active again. Only a week later, an old high school classmate’s father suffered the same type of aortic aneurysm and was in the same cardiac care unit, but his case didn’t end as happily, which drove home the point of how lucky we were. It’s easy to lose sight of this fact among theĀ minutiaeĀ of daily life, but I’ll always be thankful that things ended up the way they did.
